How do I choose a good treadmill ?

Once you have decided on getting yourself a treadmill, the next one is to sift through all the treadmills out there, and get the one that is best suited to you.
Lets however get one thing straight. Almost any treadmill that you get nowadays will look like a good one. They will have comparable features, and will also be priced around the same. There may be a couple of hundred difference at the most. And almost all brands bring out treadmills in different price segments so that you can compare them to one another before you opt for one.

The only difference lies in how well built it is. There are some brands that are known to give you amazing features, but are also known to not last more than3 or 4 yrs at the most. It will almost seem like they have designed it to conk off once the warranty period is over because that's when the problems will start.
Other brands however make sure that they give you the best of what they do. They may not give you too many features, but they will ensure that what is there will work for decades.

For example, if you haven't tried out a treadmill before and want to have one, but don't want to spend too much money buying something that you may not even use, get a manual one. It's really not too good, and will not give you too many features, but the advantage is that they are cheap and because they are mechanical cannot give you too many problems too. At the most you may have to change the belt if it gets worn down.

If on the other hand you are serious about your health and want something that you can use for years, then a good mid range one will be the best for you.  And usually a mid range one is more than sufficient for everyone, unless you are really particular about some of the features.

Going for a cheap powered one is counterproductive because they will not be built well. You may think that you are getting a good deal, but it is better to pay $700 for a mid range one than pay $500 for a low end one and then once again spend $700 on a mid range one because your first conked out in just a couple of years.
